From Jackson and Barker to Pithavadian and Partners — and now to M3. As St. Thomas College, Pala prepares to welcome the President of India, we've been entrusted with continuing a century-old legacy of craftsmanship, precision, and trust.

In the early 20th century, a distinguished construction firm based in Madras — Jackson and Barker — etched its name into the architectural history of South India. Through the decades, as the firm evolved into Prynn, Abbot and Davis in the 1930s and later into Pithavadian and Partners in the 1950s, one thing remained constant: their unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and detail.
Among their many enduring contributions stands the majestic campus of St. Thomas College, Pala — a testament to their vision and skill. Built in an era when cranes and heavy machinery were rare in our country, these buildings rose from sheer human effort, hard rock, and cement. The community rallied behind this noble endeavour, offering donations in the form of money, materials, and provisions for the labourers. My father recently showed me a cherished receipt — my grandfather's humble ₹1 contribution from 1955. That single rupee, like many others, helped lay the foundation of a structure that has stood the test of time without the need for alteration.
Today, as the college prepares to welcome the President of India, a few thoughtful modifications are being planned to accommodate a room and office space for the President's stay. The responsibility of executing this sensitive project has been entrusted to us — a decision made by Fr. Thadathil Joseph (Protosyncellus, Eparchy of Palai), and one that fills me with both honour and humility.
To be chosen to build upon the legacy of Pithavadian and Partners is no small task. Their precision, their artistry, their timeless standards — these are the benchmarks we now strive to meet. It is a challenge we embrace with reverence and resolve.
